SYNOPSIS of Wicked:
The film “Wicked” is inspired by the acclaimed Broadway musical of the same name, which itself is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch.”
Similar to the stage production, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the film follows the story of Elphaba and Glinda, short for Galinda (portrayed by Ariana Grande, who brings a vibrant energy), two witches from the magical Land of Oz. The narrative, crafted by Holzman and Dana Fox, begins immediately after the demise of Elphaba, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West, with Dorothy absent from the scene. Glinda, known as Glinda the Good, makes her entrance singing the memorable “No One Mourns the Wicked,” and then reminisces about her friendship with Elphaba, highlighting their experiences at Shiz University, a lively campus featuring a picturesque, castle-like structure reminiscent of Disney.
The “Wicked” film is scheduled to be available on various streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home (previously Vudu), Comcast Xfinity, Cox, and Microsoft Movies & TV, starting Tuesday, December 31. Additionally, it will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray™, and DVD on February 4, 2025.
