Synopsis: De De Pyaar De 2 – The Ultimate Battle of Love Vs. Family
The romantic-comedy franchise continues with De De Pyaar De 2, which follows the next chaotic chapter in the lives of Ashish Mehra (Ajay Devgn) and Ayesha Khurana (Rakul Preet Singh). Having secured the acceptance of his estranged ex-wife and children in the first film, the 52-year-old London-based NRI investor, Ashish, now faces his most daunting challenge: winning over Ayesha’s family to secure their blessing for their marriage.
The New Conflict: Ayesha Meets the Parents
Ashish and Ayesha travel to Ayesha’s family home to meet her parents, Rajji Khurana (R. Madhavan) and her mother (Gautami Kapoor). The stage is set for a generational clash when the protective father, Rajji, discovers that Ashish is nearly the same age as himself.
Ayesha, who is significantly younger than Ashish, introduces him to her parents without initially revealing his true age or status as a divorcee. While Ayesha’s parents initially strive to be progressive about the age gap, tensions quickly boil over as the realization of Ashish’s actual age creates hilariously awkward and tense situations, turning the visit into a battle of wits between Ashish and Rajji.
The Love Triangle Twist
The situation is further complicated when Rajji and his wife decide to execute a “coup de foudre” by introducing a charming, younger romantic rival into the picture. Jeet Khanna (Meezaan Jafri), the son of Ashish’s friend, is deliberately planted by Ayesha’s parents with the sole aim of distracting Ayesha and breaking up her unconventional relationship with Ashish.
This new rival forces Ashish to compete not just with his protective, age-conscious father-in-law but also with a young suitor, compelling him to go to great lengths to prove his relevance, energy, and genuine love for Ayesha.
De De Pyaar De 2 is a light-hearted, dialogue-heavy exploration of family acceptance and the complexities of modern relationships, filled with comedic one-upmanship and the universal chaos that ensues when love meets familial and societal expectations. Ashish must use all his charm and maturity to win the family’s heart and prove that age is merely a number when it comes to true love.
